Today, rather than taking you inside someone’s career, I’m inviting you to have a glimpse at an art show in which some of my work is being displayed.

Showcasing others’ careers is just as enriching to me as it is to those being featured, and for those acquiring insights from others’ experience.

I’ve been asked more than once to feature myself in a Real Careers article, and I intend to do so. I’m thinking of earmarking that as perhaps the hundredth Real Careers article but if you’d like a bit more info in the interim, you can always click on the About Shelagh option on this site.

Today, though, I thought I’d give you a peek at something else that’s near and dear to my heart, photography. A number of you know that I publish photography of our travels and our home town of Vancouver on another site, Shelagh’s Lens.

Earlier this summer, I reached out to readers on both sites with a request for your advice. With announcement of a call for submissions for Avocations, I asked readers to pick from a shortlist of photographic images I was considering submitting.

People generously responded, and I appreciate the kind words that accompanied your choices. All three pieces I submitted were chosen for the show, which opened last night. My pieces (Beachcombing, Cannon Beach Haystack Rock and Market Roses) are the three immediately in front of the gallery visitor in the picture above, and Thursday’s exhibition opening was a lovely opportunity to meet or catch up with other photographers as well as painters and a number of creative types.

I mentioned in a recent article on social media that I both buy and produce cards for personal touches in correspondence. I brought a sampling of my own cards for sale at the opening night, and was delighted with how well they were received.
