Gift Ideas: Bling

If you’re looking for some ideas for hostess or other gifts, Exceptional EA is here to help. So far, we’ve touched on colouring books (yes), linens and soaps; now let’s think about bling.

Something Shiny

It’s not just the little ones who are drawn to sparkly, shiny things under the Christmas tree. A pretty necklace or pair of earrings might be just the thing for more than a couple of the people on your list. I’m not speaking about diamonds and precious pieces, but bits of jewellery that simply feel good to wear.

The necklace above is one of my new favourites and, no, it didn’t cost a fortune. I bought it from a friend named Anne, who makes creative, custom necklaces and more, and markets her jewellery with a fellow artisan under the name Robanne Designs.

They’ve recently opened an Etsy website, and I suspect that Anne may be uploading more images before long. It may take a couple of weeks or more, though, since I know she’s recently been busy selling numerous necklaces and earrings. Quite a few were destined, I’m sure, as gifts, but many more were bought by women planning to don the jewellery themselves.

I bought the colourful necklace above last year; it was calling my name. It apparently speaks to many others, as well. I wore the necklace during a November shopping trip to the upscale Nordstrom store that recently opened in Vancouver, and four of the shop’s employees approached me in the space of less than 10 minutes to admire the necklace.

This blue and silver toned piece is another favourite, and you may be surprised to learn that each of the necklaces above cost less than $30.

Anne works with Swarovskis crystals as well as copper, silver and other materials, and you’ll see more of her pieces below.

While there’s not sufficient time for you to order from Anne’s online shop for this Christmas, you may want to keep her work in mind next time you want to spoil yourself or someone else. For these holidays, have a look around at your local jewellery counters. If there’s a Ten Thousand Villages shop in your area, you can also benefit people in other countries by purchasing their designs.
