Last Thursday evening, I was attending a board meeting when a number of our smartphones and iPads began lighting up with alerts to the results of the UK referendum. While we carried on with business after acknowledging the news, I know I was not alone in my concern for the implications.
I’d been on the phone to a London counterpart just two days earlier. While we’d scheduled our call to discuss exciting development opportunities for admin. professionals, conversation inevitably turned to the UK’s impending referendum. I offered that North Americans were following the situation closely, and it was interesting to hear this well informed Brit’s views on the dynamics of the referendum.
The referendum question was simple: “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?” The ramifications of the referendum results are far less simplistic – for people in the UK, in Europe and around the globe.
