Weekend Poll: Do You Get Enough Sleep?

Paris Le Grand room 7756 Copyright Shelagh DonnellyWhat are we exploring this weekend? Sleep, and whether you’re getting enough of this nightly  nourishment.

Arianna Huffington has written a new book, The Sleep Revolution. I heard her interviewed on CBC Radio last week, and she espoused the importance of a good night’s rest and discussed her napping practices and routines to support sweet dreams.

Ms. Huffington is in good company. The World Sleep Association of Sleep Medicine issued caution a few years ago, advising that sleep problems impact up to 45 percent of the world’s population.

Also ahead of the curve was Dr. Charles Samuels of the Canadian Sleep Society. It’s been more than five years since he said, “Too often, not getting enough sleep is seen as badge of honour in our society. Some highly successful people boast of only needing a few hours sleep every night, or not having time in their busy lives to sleep properly.” That leads us to this weekend’s poll:

Do you get sufficient sleep at night, or wind up counting sheep?

Please take a couple of minutes to complete the poll below, and I’ll publish results next Tuesday. “Select” whichever responses apply, and remember to CLICK on the “VOTE” ICON AFTER EACH QUESTION.

  1. Thanks for highlighting this. I know I don’t get the sleep my body craves. I read Arianna Huffington’s book Thrive, it was very informative and had a section on sleep. I still haven’t banished my phone from my bedroom as she advised but one day soon……

    • Very welcome, Karen. I suspect that you’re in good company.

It does seem that, for some who are short on sleep, steps such as banishing the phone and electronics (including tv) from the sleeping environment an hour before nodding off could make a healthy difference. More on this Tuesday.
