Weekend Poll Results: Web Publishing & Social Media are Part of the Job

… for what I think is an increasing percentage of readers. With thanks to all who participated, here are the results of my latest weekend poll. Our focus: What roles do apps and social media play in your daily life?

Roughly half of all respondents publish to both intranets and internet websites

But which figures more prominently among admin. professionals’ responsibilities? That would be intranets, typically representing internal resources for colleagues. 55% of respondents publish to such sites, while only 46% of respondents reported publishing to a department, divisional or company website.

Monitoring social media is part of the job for 83% of respondents

Have you updated your job description to reflect this? While monitoring social media is clearly part of the portfolio for a strong majority of respondents, that’s not the case for posting to social media – which only 23.5% of respondents reported as being among their professional responsibilities.

Social media: increasingly, a resource for reference checks

I asked readers to rate the relevance of social media reviews, on a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high) on two fronts: making purchasing decisions or recommendations, and planning offsite events. When it comes to purchasing decisions or recommendations, 50% of participants gave a 4 or 5 rating. For offsite events, a full 61% of you rated relevance of social media reviews at four or higher.

I’ll be incorporating these poll results in the next article in my Digital Disruption panel series. In the meantime, for full results of this weekend poll, read on!
