Wednesday’s Word(s): NB (nota bene)

With recognition that a strong vocabulary forms an important element of your personal brand and success in the workplace, Wednesday’s Word (or, in this case, abbreviation) this week is NB, also presented as N.B.

This abbreviation has been used since the early 1700s, and represents the Latin phrase nota bene. This translates to note well. Some choose to insert a colon between the abbreviation and subsequent text, while others do not. Writers insert the abbreviation to draw a reader’s attention to a particular piece of information, as below.

NB  Costs are exclusive of taxes.

NB: Professional development opportunities are unlimited. In addition to credit courses, today’s administrators can draw on a myriad of resources including peer and professional associations, books, conferences, mentorships, websites and more.
