Would You Be Lost Without Makeup, or Just Fine?

… or would you be just fine without it? I will own that cosmetics were high on my shopping list when we arrived in Europe last summer.

For, while we’d spent much of the previous day flying over the broad expanse of Canada and then the Atlantic Ocean, Ireland and stopping over in England before landing in Lisbon, my luggage (and cosmetics bag) went on an apparently separate journey of their own.

We were on to the third city of our almost-month-long holiday before I saw my suitcase again, a little worse for wear. In the interim, we adjusted our plans for how we’d spend our time in Lisbon and Porto, and I did what any sensible woman would do: I went shopping.

  1. Years ago, I would never think of leaving the house without my full make-up — foundation, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, blush for the cheeks. Somewhere along the line, I stopped wearing make-up, opting instead to go au naturel with my look. Don’t get me wrong. For important meetings in the office, I will make the time to make up the face. But most of the time these days, I go without my face paint.

    • It’s interesting to see how our approach evolves, isn’t, Bianca?

I’ve not worn foundation since trying it in my teens, but know I’m fortunate and recognise how important it can be. I think my approach is fairly simple, focusing on eyes and lips (and blush, sometimes, for an evening out), but am particular about the brands I choose. I suspect that we’re both in good company with our different approaches, as are those who take the approach you used to follow.
