Mic Drop: Time to Dismantle Stereotypes of the Admin. Profession

It’s 2017, and it’s time to escalate efforts to dismantle stereotypes about the admin. profession.

Late last year, I began to assemble another international panel of Real Careers alumni. The focus? Tackling and dismantling stereotypes of the admin. profession – which includes acknowledging the presence of men in such roles.

Near the end of November, well after reaching out to prospective panel members around the globe, I tuned in one night to the Late Late Show. If you’re familiar with Carpool Karaoke, you’ll know the host, British comedian James Corden.

I watched Corden’s Drop the Mic bout with Usain Bolt, only to hear the comedian perpetuating stereotypes of just what it is admin. professionals do for a living.

I like Corden and his humour, and can take a joke. His piece, though, affirmed the need for us to continue to work to elevate perceptions of the admin. career – and the skills required for success as an admin. professional.

That’s why this panel series is important

Click here to see the first in this series – in which you’ll hear what Craig Bryson, Bianca Constance, Declan Halton-Woodward, Craig Harris, Jennifer Robson, James Sobczak, Matthew Want and Louise Whitehead have to say about the realities of successful administrative careers.

… and yes; the article includes a link to that Mic Drop session!
