Technology

A thought for your day, with my good wishes …

The world isn’t getting any easier. With all these new inventions I believe that people are hurried more and pushed more … The hurried way is not the right way; you need time for work, time to play, time to rest.

― Hedy Lamarr

Ironically, the beautiful Vienna-born actress Hedy Lamarr was a brilliant inventor who’s known as “the mother of Wi Fi”. During World War II, she developed what’s known as frequency hopping technology, a precursor to wireless communications such as Wi Fi, cell phones, GPS and Bluetooth. Ms. Lamar partnered with friend and composer George Antheil to create that particular bit of technology to prevent detection of the Allies’ radio waves on the seas. The two submitted that patent application in 1941 and offered their technology to the US Navy. The US Navy declined the offer, and Ms. Lamar instead sold war bonds to support the war effort. Although she and Mr. Antheil did not profit from that particular invention, its subsequent impacts have been significant.
