Horizons

A thought for your day, with my good wishes for the new year we have on the horizon …
When you grow up by the sea, you spend a good deal of time looking at the horizon. You wonder what on earth the waves might bring – and where the sea might deposit you – until one day you know you have lived between two places, the scene of arrival and the point of departure.

About this photo: In May this year, I was back on the incredible Isle of Skye. I’d driven to Plockton, a lovely village with a website proclaiming community is “the jewel of the Highlands”. After enjoying fish and chips, water views and the local palm trees, it was after 9:30 before I made my way back toward Portree.
The challenge with driving in Scotland is that it’ll likely take longer than you expect to reach your destination, given the country’s beauty. I constantly pull over to soak up and enjoy sights and moments in time.
That’s what I did here, in Broadford, Skye. Given the northerly latitude and time of year, daylight extended well in to the evening and I captured these beautiful colours and silhouettes at 10:35 p.m.
For more photos and videos of my travels, you’re welcome to follow me on Instagram and YouTube. Here’s a look at another sight that compelled me to stop and park my car enroute from Plockton to Portree; this part of Kyle was less than 15 or 20 minutes from Plockton.
