Gifts

A thought for your day, with my good wishes to all …
Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.
— Bill Keane
This May marked my first stay in Nice, France, and I found it a great home base for exploring the French Riviera … and even Italy, as train travel is convenient. Here, and in the slide show below, have a look at gorgeous Menton, France. This sunny town is close to the Italian border, and is known for its lemons – you can buy locally produced limoncello – as well as its gorgeous weather, architecture and Mediterranean setting.
This quote’s reference to the past had me thinking about just how long ago some of the places I’ve visited were established. The first written references to Menton go as far back as 1262. The town was known for its ties to a Genoese family before becoming a domain of Monaco’s princes from 1346 until 1845, when citizens declared Menton a Free City. Menton was incorporated into France in 1861.
