Are you ready for Tip Three?
Don’t let your job title or others’ perceptions of you define or limit your view of yourself or your career prospects.
Establish short- and long-term career goals.
Remember, though, that goals are meaningless without metrics to assess progress, and without identifying and taking concrete steps toward achieving your goals.
So, what do you do? Build metrics into each goal you set.
Then, schedule routine assessments of your progress toward goals.
If you find following through on goal setting challenging, approach your goals as a matter of ditching some habits and forming new ones.
When you’re working on performance planning, align your goals and contributions with your principal’s (boss’) or unit’s deliverables.
