With thanks to all who are participating in my Weekend Polls, here are the results of this past weekend’s poll, which I’ve now closed. The focus of this past weekend’s poll: How typical is it for you to work into the evening hours?

What’s the latest you’ve worked?
Hmm. It seems that we could use the words “late” and “early” interchangeably. While 7% of respondents haven’t worked later than 7:00 p.m., 40% of respondents have worked later than 11:00 p.m. 20% of respondents have worked until 1:00 a.m. or later.
What drives these late hours, and are you compensated?
For 45% of respondents, it’s sheer workload. Events are a factor for 29% of you, while meetings are the primary factor for 21% of you. Less than half the respondents – 45% – receive compensation, either in time off or financially. The irony? As one person put it, there is in theory the capacity to take time off in lieu of hours worked … but this rarely happens, due to workload. Read on for full details.
