THE COURSE

Your role requires you to communicate graciously, with clarity and conviction, as you deal with a range of people. On any given day, you may need to discuss deliverables, goals or expectations. You could also find yourself negotiating, advocating or dealing with conflict. You may deliver or receive formal or informal performance feedback. While some back away from being assertive because they associate it with being pushy or annoying, assertiveness is a key skill.

In this course, you’ll learn how to effectively assert yourself without being branded as abrasive or unlikeable. The ability to be graciously assertive helps you contribute relevant knowledge and expertise, highlight your impacts, and establish and maintain boundaries. These skills enable you to influence outcomes, speak truth to power, make the case for something you want or need, and negotiate.

You’ll gain insights on how your communication style and readiness to professionally assert yourself can impact your progress … and others’ perceptions of your value to the organization. You’ll gain practical strategies to assert yourself in a professional manner that elevates your visibility and image, as you extend and earn respect.

1.  Understand why and how to graciously assert yourself
2.  Assess why you may hesitate to assert yourself in certain circumstances, and prepare to overcome such hurdles
3.  Learn to speak with impact, choosing words that strengthen clarity and inspire confidence
