THE COURSE

There are many good reasons for paying attention to governance, exploring what boards do and how they function. You may support a board, aspire to such a role, find yourself preparing board reports alongside senior colleagues, or be exploring new ways to elevate your acumen.  We’ll focus on governance principles, priorities, roles and responsibilities, and you’ll gain a good understanding of the extent to which governance has evolved.

COURSE OUTCOMES

1. Develop a solid understanding of core governance principles
2. Gain insights on board effectiveness and the board’s role in organisational success
3. Distinguish between board and management roles, and types of board meetings
4. Learn how effective boards provide oversight, and familiarise yourself with tools boards use to articulate responsibilities and accountabilities
5. Be aware of the evolution of board composition, refreshment and succession planning, which reflect how the scope of board oversight and agendas continue to evolve
6. Understand board processes, and the roles committees fulfill in board effectiveness
