A thought for your day, featuring photography from my travels. This shot: Continuing from yesterday’s photo of an elegant building in The Hague, this is a look at Haagse Harry … a popular creation of the late Marnix Rueb. I was more than a little surprised, as I approached a market, to come across this massive sculpture amid beautiful old buildings, so made a point of learning about it. Mr. Rueb died in 2014 and his family used proceeds of his posthumous Hague Culture Award to have this statue created and installed in the Grote Markt. As I understand it, the phonetically presented phrase on Haagse Harry’s t-shirt translates to, “Stop it! Very important”.

A thought for your day, featuring photography from my travels. This shot: near the outset of this spring’s travels, I made my first visit to Scotland’s Outer Hebrides and the Isle of Harris. Check out an online map to see just how remote this location is – and its northern latitude! You’re barely 1,000 km/624 miles from Iceland. The Callanish Stones, seen here, predate Stonehenge and I made my way to the stones twice.
