An astute executive values an assistant’s capacity to speak truth to power. S/he needs to have confidence that you have the capacity to stand up and deliver, with tact and poise, what may sometimes be difficult information.

Even if your executive’s management style incorporates regular connection with employees, it’s difficult for one person to know it all. There are degrees of separation, and colleagues or clients may be reluctant to deliver unpopular news that may be critical to corporate or personal success.

This is one of the reasons that mutual trust and respect are so critical to your working partnership with your executive or principal.
